When the tattoo measures blood sugar
Dr Noé Brasier on next generation digital biomarkers and wearable devices at this year's "Treffpunkt Science City" public event at ETH Zurich.

New, wearable sensors should make it possible to analyse bodily fluids such as sweat, breath, saliva or tears. The next generation of wearables can take measurements at a molecular level, similar to analysing blood. This is non-invasive and continuous. Wearers receive indications of inflammation, infections or high glucose levels, for example. The variety of possible devices ranges from dummies that measure whether infants are dehydrated to tattoos that display the sugar level. A lot is possible - what is useful?
